Training of 16 Diabetic Retinopathy Screeners from Dominica, Jamaica and St Lucia completed
In keeping with its purpose “to prevent blindness and visual impairment”, Caribbean Council for the Blind (CCB) in collaboration with The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust and Sight Savers International completed the training of 16 Diabetic Retinopathy Screeners from: Dominica, Jamaica and St. Lucia. Each batch was trained over a period of 40 contact hours. Screeners from Jamaica were trained at the Eye Department, Mandeville Regional Hospital
Caribbean Diabetic Retinopathy Programme To Start With Six Countries
St. John’s, Antigua, April 13, 2014 : Six countries from the Commonwealth Caribbean have been selected to participate in the Caribbean Diabetic Retinopathy: Prevention, Screening, Referral and Treatment Programme. Chief Executive Officer of the Caribbean Council for the Blind (CCB/Eye Care Caribbean), Arvel Grant, says the countries that will be participating are Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Dominica, Guyana, Jamaica and St. Lucia. “The next step in the process is the development of a regional proposal based on national consultations with interested countries. Casper Fredrick closed his eyes as he concentrated on his latest project – that of making a rug from scraps of fabric. Although he could not see the colours, his rugged hands, hardened by years of toil, undertook the delicate task of rug making. REGIONAL YOUTH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPUniversity of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus,BarbadosJuly 26th-July 29th. 2010 The Regional Youth Leadership Development Workshop organized by the Caribbean Council for the Blind (CCB) and Eye Care Caribbean with the kind sponsorship of the Perkins International IDP Programs was held for the purpose of empowering youths with visual impairments to assume leadership roles in Organizations of/for the Blind across the Caribbean. The objective decided at the outset was to enhance the leadership capacity of young persons with visual disability in the Caribbean Region, in preparation for their assumption of future leadership roles.
