It was&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">established with the support of the Royal&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Commonwealth Society for the Blind (now&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Sightsavers) in response to a petition made to&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">the Queen of England with respect to the&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">conditions affecting persons who were blind in&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Jamaica (at that time). The JSB is an&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Organisational Member of the Caribbean&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Council for the Blind (CCB).<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><strong>Mission and Vision<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Initially, the mission of the JSB primarily&nbsp;<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">involved organizing and maintaining a record&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">of all persons who were blind or visually&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">impaired with the help of the Salvation Army.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">However, as the membership grew, the Board&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">became engaged in a range of fundraising&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">activities in an effort to augment the&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">subvention which was received from the&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Government. The Society also increased the&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">number of programmes for the benefit of its&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">membership.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Milestones<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u2022&nbsp;1954 &#8211;
