It is an&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Organisational Member of the Caribbean Council for the&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Blind.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><strong>Mission and Vision<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">To be the leading organisation providing services for&nbsp;<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">persons who are blind and visually impaired in&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Barbados.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">To bring light where there is darkness, strength where&nbsp;<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">there is weakness, through education, motivation and&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">mutual respect.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><strong>Programmes\/Services offered<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The organization is moving towards offering improved&nbsp;<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">services in the areas of:<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u2022 Academic Qualifications, Vocational Training,&nbsp;<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">further Public Awareness, Outreach&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Programmes<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u2022 Such programmes will enhance the personal&nbsp;<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">development of persons who are blind and&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">visually impaired to keep abreast of the&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">changing times.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u2022 Anthony Spencer Scholarship Award<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">In loving Memory of the late ANTHONY&nbsp;<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">SPENCER, a truly great stalwart of the&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">organization and the disabled movement,&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">who tragically lost his life in a car accident,&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">the Members of the Organization have&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">endorsed the Executive\u2019s commitment to a&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">series of fund-raising events. Emphasis is p<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">laced on raising funds to equip children,&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">young persons and adults who are blind or&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">visually impaired with the necessary&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">assistive instruments, (e.g. gadgets, course&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">fees, etc) which will help to breakdown barriers&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">of exclusion to education<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><strong>Main Activities undertaken (on a monthly\/<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">yearly basis):<\/span><\/strong> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u2022 Annual Fundraising Sponsored Walk<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u2022 Public Eye Screening<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u2022 Promotion and Public Awareness of Assistive&nbsp;<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Aids used by the Blind<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u2022 Other Outreach Programs which focus on Eye&nbsp;<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Diseases and applicable technological&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">advancements<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">The Society recently became a member of&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">International Blind Sports Association (IBSA); by&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">extension we collaborate with the local Paralympics&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Association of Barbados (PAB) and we are&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">recognised by the National Sports Council as the&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">body which represents sports (except Blind Cricket)&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">for persons who are blind and visually impaired.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">International Blind Sports Association (IBSA) is&nbsp;<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">registered as a non-profit, public interest body in&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Spain, whose mandate is to promote the integration&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">of disabled people in general, and persons who are&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">blind in particular.<\/span> <\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Sports can help them overcome their disability by&nbsp;<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">strengthening their self-esteem and their ability to&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">overcome difficulties and aid with normalisation in&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">their living environment.
